A time to kill
Letter to the editor;
The TV movie “High Noon” (not to be confused with the classic western of the same name) depicted a crazy man with a twisted personal agenda, holding hostages in a bank.
Eventually the SWAT snipers killed him, but only after the negotiator tried for a long time to coax him out.
To give the viewers reason to believe this murderous lunatic could be persuaded to surrender, the movie first covered some other hostage situations with varied results.
In the end, the police had to decide to take it upon themselves to kill this man before he would kill several innocent people he was holding at gunpoint.
This goes both ways: Evil government people (and there certainly are evil government people) can murder an individual of their choice and have the public applaud the killing as protecting public safety.
On the other hand, when the defenders of law and order have righteously killed a violent criminal, publishers and broadcasters can spin the story out until the public believes the bad guy was an innocent victim of corrupt and murderous police.

The basis of evil government
Letter to the editor;
In the beginning, Hashem created the heavens and the earth.
(For us who are not Jews; Hashem, or ha Shem, means The Name – of G-d.)
And Hashem created man in his own image.
And He gave them just that one Commandment about the forbidden fruit.
And the Yetzer Hara came among them and said, “Do it my way. You shall be like G-d, knowing good from evil.” (For the benefit of us Gentiles, the Yetzer Hara is your evil inclination.)
Adam already knew good from evil, as he already had that one Commandment.
But the Yetzer Hara had to pretend to have something to offer. Maybe he pretended to mean, “Do it my way and you can decide good and evil for yourselves.”
And then came to pass six thousand years of evil government by men and women who decided for themselves what was good and what was evil – and shoved it down the throats of everyone else by force and violence and mass-murder, backed by goon-squads.
Josef Stalin was an example of this. He murdered tens of millions of Russians, trying to establish government his way; the way of the Yetzer Hara. Other examples are Adolf Hitler, Pol Pot and Genghis Khan.
And the modern “Liberal,” has decided to do things his own way (the Yetzer Hara way). He believes that knowing good and evil means that he gets to decide for himself what is good and what is evil for the entire human race – and force it on us.

Greens move mice in; people out
Letter to the editor;
The PLF SENTRY reports that some outfit is taking families’ houses away by eminent domain and making them into shelters for some endangered sort of mouse.
But what do we know about the value of an endangered mouse?! Who are we to debate the wisdom of setting up some particular rodent in housekeeping?!
Now, this is very scientific, so everyone please pay attention: Since they want to increase the population of that sort of mouse, then put a bounty on them: Not dead, but alive and scurrying around.
Encourage homeowners to build bird-house-sized mouse-houses down under their porches. You know – with woven-wire fences around their little door-yards to protect them from cats. That way nobody has to move out to let the mice move in.
They could put special mouse-dinners out to attract more such tenants, and to prosper the ones already at hand.
Then, once a month, each homeowner would mail off a mice-in-residence report.
The environmentalists would be required to send checks to their mouse-keepers – say a dollar per month per mouse. This would keep it worth-while for people who keep the mouse-motels clean and safe.
The environmentalists could take an on-site, face-to-face mouse-census every so often to verify how many mice they actually have, so nobody would be tempted to collect a bounty on animals that are not even there.
Let's see, if every other female mouse has a litter of six every two months, then by this time next year they ought to be about ankle-deep in mice.
The men with the mice might be getting checks of several hundred dollars a month from the Greens. Green checks, that is; not government checks. This would give the Greens a personal motivation to decide when enough subsidized mice are enough. (If it were government money, they might never come to that conclusion.)

Stuff not to do
Letter to the editor;
“No government money, whether borrowed or taxed, should ever be used to bail out private financial interests.” (The Downsizer organization)
Yeah. No bailouts.. . . and while we’re at it . . .
No bills the Congresscritters haven’t read.
No bills ghost-written for Congress by outsiders.
No bills that treat of more than one subject.
No bills that are not specifically authorized by the Constitution.No undeclared, no-win wars.No legally-sanctioned abortions or euthanasia. No emergency concentration camps.No locking up anyone without resort to real courts.No land-grabs.No infringement upon the right of the people to keep and bear arms.No throwing money away.No special projects for particular districts.
No treaties that give away the nation or its assets. And, in case we forgot anything, don't do that either.

Pay them lots more
Letter to the editor;
A reader proposes we pay our Beloved Leaders only what they are worth. It would save a fortune, he said, because most of them are worth very little.
However, I propose to pay them all much more -- and save a thousand times as much.
You ask, “How could you possibly save money by throwing it at politicians?”
Here’s how: Pay the President, the Vice President, the Cabinet members, the Justices of the Supreme Court and all the Congresscritters a million dollars a year each. They would have to pay their own staff, office rent, retirement, limousines, stationary and stamps out of this million.
(Probably they would each run an office the size of a motel room, with a staff of one. See, they would want to take home as much of that lovely money as possible rather than waste it on riotous DC living.)
AND – they would be paid at the end of each fiscal year – out of whatever is left in the Treasury.
See, if they spend us into a deficit, there would be nothing left in the Treasury to pay them. They wouldn't get that million. They wouldn't get anything at all. This would be a very powerful personal motivation in the direction of fiscal sanity.
They would be, as it were, spending their own money.
They would all catch on to this in about three seconds.
We might never see another deficit or another war.
That's how.

Explosives for terror
Letter to the editor;
“ATF Issues Alert Notice Regarding Thefts of Explosives along Mexican Border”
May I remind the world that genuine terrorists are not dependent on theft to procure explosives. Terrorists' sponsoring governments are all well able to provide explosives in hundred-ton lots. Terrorist dictatorships can ship it world-wide by commercial carrier.
The "romantic" Hollywood version depicts commandos stealing dynamite and carrying it on foot in knapsacks over the rugged mountains, thru blizzards, and across the burning deserts among rattlesnakes, to blow up a bridge, a microwave relay-tower or a power-line.
If real terrorists (say, Saudi Arabians) were to phone home for a train-load (of, say, TNT) their government sponsors could have it delivered in sealed railroad containers (in, say, downtown Phoenix) -- and if that is not close enough, they could use their disposable credit cards to rent trucks to haul it to the site of their planned atrocity.
It can't hurt to be on the lookout for some drug-addicted drifter trying to "lift" fifty pounds of dynamite from a construction site. But that must not take our mind away from the plain fact that real terrorists have governments backing them.

Letter to the editor;
[photo of a baby -- photoshopped to appear unborn]
This is not a person. It is all right to, um, ah, “terminate” it as long as it is still in its mother’s womb. The greatest living legal minds have conferred and agreed on this.
(Actually, this baby has already been born. The photo is a hoax designed to make you believe it is an “intrauterine” picture. But you don’t get a blue background there.)
The politicians have come out four-square for the right to, um, “choose” to abort. We should certainly give some respect to the conclusions of our Beloved Leaders.
You who look at this picture are insane out of your mind, because as soon as you saw it, you said, “A baby!” -- not “A parasite!” You wanted to love and care for this child -- not to dump its bloody, broken body into the incinerator around back of some abortuary.

Letter to the editor;
(A very lengthy parable came in the e-mail. I only wish it were my original idea.)
To cut it short, a student asks his economics professor to explain the Stimulus Bill.
After class, the professor walks the student to a nearby swimming pool. They each dip two buckets of water from the deep end, walk around to the shallow end and pour it in.
After several round trips carrying water like that, the student says, “This accomplishes nothing. It’s a waste of time and effort.”
The professor says, “Now you understand the Stimulus Bill.”

The cure’s worse’n the disease
Letter to the editor;
When I lived in Guatemala a couple of generations ago, I got intestinal parasites. The cure was to administer arsenic. It worked. The other part of the treatment was to STOP feeding me arsenic at the appropriate time.
Now, it may possibly be that at some time or other it was beneficial to the nation for the government to throw money around. The trouble is, the politicians LIKED that and did it again and again. More and more. When it made the economy worse instead of better, they reasoned that they just hadn’t thrown enough money at it.
Now we are seeing this idiocy balloon into enormous proportions. They are treating the patient with arsenic, AND THEY DON’T KNOW WHEN TO STOP!
It is impossible to tell what is in the mind of a politician that he or she would do such an obviously evil thing. It is likewise impossible to tell what is in the mind of the people to allow them to do such a thing.
H. K. Menken said that government is a fantasy by which everyone expects to live off of everyone else. That might be at the root of the problem.
If that is the case, then as Pogo said, “We has met the enemy, and he is us”.
It is enough to make reasonable people think that when God said, “Thou shalt not covet anything that is thy neighbor’s,” He might have known what He was talking about.

Federal spending authority
Letter to the editor;
(An open letter to your Congresscritter)
Do you get your authority by way of the Constitution?
(YES.)
Do you get just a little extra authority some other way?
(NO.)
The Constitution tells you how you may spend money
.Army.
Navy.
Post offices and Post roads.
Patent office.
Courts.
Piracy-punishment.
Counterfeiting-punishment.
Treason-punishment.
Naturalization laws.
Bankruptcy laws.
There's some stuff about the militia, too. No doubt that authorizes you to spend money on it.
Did I miss anything?
(YOU SURE DID.)
But the list is short.
Is your authority open-ended? Is it limitless?
(NOT REALLY.)
Is there a clause in the Constitution that if Congress REALLY wants something, or if the political situation REALLY requires it, that over-rides the whole rest of the Constitution?
(OH, DON'T I WISH!)
The chances are that we could pay off the national debt in a single generation if you would obey the Constitution and limit your spending to those items it authorizes.

The earth is very old
Letter to the editor;
For generations we have pulled the rug out from under ourselves, devoutly believing that the earth was created ex nihilo (out of nothing) in the year 4002 BC. (And as a certain cynical atheist added, “on the fourteenth of October, at 9 o’clock in the morning.)
In the beginning G-d created the heavens and the earth.
Adam was created about six thousand years ago.
The Grand Canyon is only one of many mountainous pieces of evidence that The Beginning was thousands of millions of years before Adam.
Our children look at the rocks and hear us say the many layers of the mountains (and the fossils embedded within them) were created just a few days before Adam.
They know better. They can plainly see that this is not true. They may think we would lie to them about other things as well – like about the L-rd or the Ten Commandments.
There is not a solitary word in Scripture that indicates that the earth was without form and void only about a hundred hours before Adam first drew breath. Those numbered “days” of creation just didn’t necessarily have to occur back-to-back with each other.
For those who say G-d created the Grand Canyon and fossils and all that so shortly ago -- will you say He deliberately deceived us? That He manufactured false evidence?
Since the Creator would not lie to us, we can conclude that the fossils in the rocks prove that there used to be other kinds of living things – and that the earth is exceedingly old.

Pray about abortion-politics
Letter to the editor;
We have laws against murder. Every nation severely punishes unlawful killing. Even a violent criminal may not be killed by a private citizen except in the very act of committing a dangerous felony.
Almost two generations ago our Beloved Leaders decided to ignore six thousand years of recorded history, law and tradition – and permit the deliberate slaughter of anyone who has not yet been born.
Now, babies in the womb are not puppies or kittens, but small-size human children.
Since then, all nice and legal, about forty million small-size human children have been killed because the adults who beget them suddenly found them to be, um, inconvenient.
President-elect Obama has vowed that on his first day in office he will sign a law to take away any shred of protection for pre-born persons.
Pray. Pray every day. Pray every day until President-elect Obama becomes President Obama – that Congress will not hand him any such law to sign.

Not all the Nazis are dead
Letter to the editor;
One of those dreary anti-Semites sent me a long and detailed e-mail condemning Jews.
It contained the regular, standard generic hate-tripe that we have all heard before.
He said “the Jews” are not real Jews, or even Israelites, but degenerate Asiatic Russians.
He said Jesus and the real Israelites were tall, blond and blue-eyed.
He said Jews are the literal children of Satan, part of a separate evil creation, especially created for the purpose of being destroyed.
He said every single Jew of every generation is guilty of the death of Christ.
THIS IS GRADE “A” UNADULTERATED MALARKEY!
Jesus was a Jew among Jews. His mother and step-father were Jews.
His disciples and Apostles were Jews. His friends and His enemies were Jews.
He was learned in the Jewish scriptures and traditions.
He taught Jewish Law and ethics in public, and He was called Rabbi in public.
He did not condemn the Jewish Law: Rather, He condemned those who violated it.
When he came to Jerusalem only a few days before His death, the words of the crowds of admiring believers indicate that they either wanted Him to be King – or possibly that they actually MADE Him King. Pilate thought Jesus might be the king of the Jews.
Yes, there were some Jews – maybe a hundred – who were conspired in the death of Jesus. They are all long dead. Their descendants cannot be guilty of that crime.
The Bible records that they shouted, “His blood be upon us and our children!” But they could not actually bring guilt on their children or on anybody else.
No. The old blood-libel that “the Jews killed Christ” won’t wash. It’s just not true.

“A snowball headed for hell”
Letter to the editor;
The nation is in trouble. Big trouble. (Pick a nation and a trouble: We’re in it.)
A popular song likens this to a snowball rolling down toward the nether regions.
PLAN A: Ignore it. It’ll go away. Or maybe someone else will take care of things.
PLAN B: Trust our Beloved Leaders to fix it. (But they caused at lease part of it.)
PLAN C: Urge the government to hand out lots and lots of money that it doesn’t have, and to decree that it will do more of the same if the trouble continues.
PLAN D: Demand the government get rid of the Jews/ Blacks/ Mexicans/ drug-dealers/ homosexuals/ Socialists. (All of these have been tried at other times and other places and none of them fixed a thing.)
PLAN E: Stage a bloody revolution and wreck the nation’s foundations and build a new one on the basis of whoever kills the most people. (This always gives WORSE results.)
PLAN F: Sit crosslegged and say “Ooooom. Ooooom.” until your mind is calm like water. (This doesn’t fix anything -- but then you don’t care about it anymore.)
PLAN G: Phone and write politicians to tell them a better way to do things.
PLAN H: Demand the government hold a nationwide day of prayer and fasting. (Good. Good. But you cannot make ‘em pray, and they certainly aren’t going to fast on command.)
PLAN I: Repent. Not try to make your neighbors repent. Just repent. Not try to have the government proclaim repentance. Just repent. Seeing that you cannot make anybody else repent, just repent.

The krizmuz card
Letter to the editor;
Here’s this generic “krizmuz” card: Santa Claus and some magic flying reindeer wishing you happy holidays or some such innocuous greeting.
Here’s this other card, an actual Christian card: Let’s see, the really drafty wreckage of a former shack, camels, sheep, a donkey, a bunch of people in bathrobes -- and a baby. Much better. At least this card depicts what many people think might have happened.
Let us analyze the scene:
The Bible says Baby Jesus was laid in a manger. Not a word about the wreckage of a ramshackle stable. Joseph would have wisely rented someplace better than that. Maybe a stall in a fairly decent barn or carriage house? Anyway, some place out of the weather, with no fresh manure or swarms of flies.
Camels. Scratch camels. By the time the wise men got there, Joseph had rented a house. And, anyway, they were probably rabbis from across Jordan, and would have walked in – so probably no Persian kings and astrologers came in on camels at that time.
Sheep? No. No sheep. The Bible says at that time of year the shepherds were watching their sheep by night in the open fields nearby, not protecting them in buildings.
Donkey? Joseph was a carpenter. What would he need with a donkey to stand around all day eating up his wages? When Joseph bought lumber, he would have it delivered.
All those people in robes? That is fairly certain to be correct. However it is highly doubtful that lots and lots of them showed up all at the same time like that.
The Baby. Ah, YES, the Holy Child. The Son of God. The Savior of mankind.
Muslims know that child as Eess – a prophet of Allah to the Jews.
Jews don’t need to think a thing about that child. Hashem has something else for Jews.
Yoo Hoo, y’all who call yourselves Christians: Forget Santa Claus. Meet Baby Jesus.

Sure-fire 2009 predictions
Letter to the editor;
I, the Great Glenn (“Sees all. Knows all.”) make my guaranteed predictions for 2009.
No matter who is finally inaugurated as President of the United States, hundreds of members of the Council on Foreign Relations (a private club) will be appointed to high positions in that administration.
However much money the government has been wasting, it will squander yet more.
The new administration will continue our illegal undeclared wars.
However many thousands of pages of foolish regulations they have saddled American commerce and industry with, they will write even more.
However many treaties against American interests the politicians have stacked up, they will present yet more for ratification.
Every time the politicians make an agreement to cripple this country, they will hail it on the front pages as a great diplomatic triumph.
They will make progress in their drive to submerge the United States, Canada and Mexico under an unelected and unresponsive continental government.
They will make progress on the highway, rail and pipeline “corridor” from Mexico to Canada right thru the heart of the United States.
And they will make significant progress in outlawing herbs, vitamin supplements, home-grown foods, firearms, ammunition, concealed carry, and/or independent contracting.
Politicians will continue to lie to us.
The majority will continue to vote for the politicians who lie the best.

The Angel and the politician
Letter to the editor;
(An Angel comes from Glory to straighten up a politician.)
“Fear Not!” (That's what the Bible says Angels say.)
“Uh, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah – Oh, my GOD! I'm DEAD!”
“No. Not yet. And I’m not God. But I have a message for you from Him.”
“He wants me to stop voting for bills I haven’t read – doesn’t He?”
“Can you think of anything else?”
“Um, and vote no on bills about more than one thing?”
“And -- ?”
“And only bills that the Constitution authorizes?”
“Did someone else already talk to you about all this?”
“No. I, uh, um, er, ah, that is -- Why?”
“Because it didn't take long for you to guess. Have these issues been troubling you?”
“Er, well, a little, I guess.”
“Well, Mister Politician, that's the message. Now, whether you live forty days or forty years, you are responsible for what you said in your own words tonight.”
“Couldn't we talk this over? My party leaders would never understand . . . ”
“Lo, I have spoken.” Thus spake the Seraph, and forthwith ascended into heaven.
However, Angels hardly ever work politicians over like that, so it is up to us. Part of our civic duty is to remind our Beloved Leaders forcefully and often about these issues.

Evil deeds cause depression and captivity
Letter to the editor;
The Bible and the Book of Mormon both testify to us that the key to peace, prosperity and freedom is to obey the Commandments of the Lord.
You can check this out: When a critical mass of the people of any nation fall away from the morality of their ancestors, the innocent suffer with the guilty and the whole population falls into wars, depression and bad government. This is history.
We are taught that the way out of these bad situations is to take government handouts, create our own version of morality, invest correctly and vote for the lesser of two evils.
WRONG-O! The correct answer starts out, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy might and with all thy mind.
It includes Honor thy father and thy mother.
It goes on to list things NOT to do: Thou shalt not murder. Thou shalt not commit adultery. Thou shalt not steal. Thou shalt not bear false witness. Thou shalt not covet anything that is thy neighbor’s. There are more. You can look them up.
And it’s not enough to slavishly follow these Commandments. We have to have the right attitude about it.
The connection between morality and prosperity are not immediately apparent to the atheistic mind. The modern, politically-correct, sophisticated, college-educated mind is likely to scoff at this as antiquated, superstitious and simplistic.
However, it follows from “In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.”
(Notice that it doesn’t say, “In the beginning, the self-existent elements sort of fell together at random and the earth and its atmosphere were the accidental results”.)
(However, if you want to take it from the atheistic perspective, you can still make the connection between morality and prosperity. It’s there, and it’s real.)
We are not going to get out from under this by electing magical politicians who can create wealth out of thin air. We should work, pray, be thrifty, read the Scriptures, take care of our families, grow gardens, sing hymns, patch our clothes and help our neighbors.

It will not always be easy for us
Letter to the editor;
The ancient Roman Empire was finished when wolves prowled in down-town Rome.
“But that was then and this is now. It just can’t happen in these modern times.” (Oh?!)
Some people know how to make whiskey, and some know how to make black powder.
We had all better learn how to grow grain and beans and corn and squash and tomatoes.
It will not be enough to patch our old clothes: We had better learn to spin and weave as well, or get used to wearing only the shreds of mop-rags thrown away by the poor.
In short, we can look forward to a New Great Depression that will be the gift of God to turn us toward a revival of American values.
By the Grace of God, the coming Great Depression will last until --
-- the Politically-Correct learn that evil actions MUST be harshly rejected;
-- Environmentalists learn that all our needs must be taken from the environment;
-- Leftists learn that government produces exactly NOTHING -- and that we can expect from government much less than it takes away from us first.
-- hedonists learn that food, shelter and clothing come before sex, booze and drugs;
-- the guys who hang around street-corners, leaning on lamp posts and annoying passers-by, learn that they must work or starve;
-- the violent-crime boys repent and work for their keep, or are maimed or killed by their intended victims;
-- lawyers learn that there is more to the Law than their slimy, dishonest, vile, sneaky end-runs around truth and justice; and MAINLY,
-- we learn ALL God knew what He was talking about when He said, "Thou shalt NOT . . . "

It will not always be easy for us
Letter to the editor;
By the Grace of God, the coming Great Depression will last until --
-- the Politically-Correct learn that evil actions MUST be harshly rejected;
-- Environmentalists learn that all our needs must be taken from the environment;
-- Leftists learn that government produces exactly NOTHING -- and that we can expect from government much less than it takes away from us first.
-- hedonists learn that food, shelter and clothing come before sex, booze and drugs;
-- the guys who hang around street-corners, leaning on lamp posts and annoying passers-by, learn that they must work or starve;
-- the violent-crime boys repent and work for their keep, or are maimed or killed by their intended victims;
-- lawyers learn that there is more to the Law than their slimy, dishonest, vile, sneaky end-runs around truth and justice; and MAINLY,
-- we learn ALL God knew what He was talking about when He said, "Thou shalt NOT . . . "
